Paramount and Buchwald File Depositions: Lawyers for Paramount Pictures and for humorist Art Buchwald and producer Alain Bernheim filed more than 2,000 pages of depositions in Los Angeles Superior Court for the second phase of Buchwald’s suit against Paramount over the financial accounting of the hit film “Coming to America.” The depositions contained sworn testimony of 14 experts in film accounting and largely reiterated the charges and countercharges that were leveled earlier by each side in the lawsuit. In the first phase of the suit, the court upheld Buchwald’s contention that “Coming to America” was based on his idea. The second phase will determine the amount of damages, if any, that Buchwald is owed.
