THE HAGUE, Netherlands — Jazz great Ella Fitzgerald was treated for exhaustion at a hospital today after becoming ill in her hotel, according to the organizer of a festival she was to headline.
Fitzgerald, 72, who was here for the North Sea Jazz Festival, was admitted to the Bronovo Hospital on Monday and was in good condition, Dr. Clifford Booker, a physician accompanying her, said.
Booker said hospital physicians ordered several days’ rest, and Fitzgerald canceled a Wednesday night appearance at a festival gala in her honor and the remainder of her European tour.
“Her condition is good, but she’s extremely exhausted,” Booker said.
He said the singer was also suffering from dehydration and denied that heart problems were involved. Fitzgerald wears a pacemaker.
