For dedicated gardeners, here are suggestions from the California Assn. of Nurserym e n on what to do in the garden this week:
* Plant chrysanthemums now for an abundance of color when fall arrives.
* Water in early morning or evening to decrease water evaporation during the hot weather. If mildew becomes a problem, try watering earlier in the morning.
* Day lilies aren’t fussy and bloom most anywhere in yellow, pink, red, orange or a combination thereof. They tolerate hot and sunny weather with ample watering or take some shade with drought conditions. Rich soil is best, but almost any type will suffice.
* Remember, roses are happiest with monthly feedings.
