If you go: Overseas Adventure Travel offers a three-week land package that includes a week in the Amazon, a week’s trekking in the Andes and a week’s boating around the Galapagos Islands. When to travel: The best weather is in May and June. January and February are the rainiest months.
What to bring: Binoculars, rubber boots, sleeping bag, mosquito repellent, T-shirts and tank tops, walking shorts, water bottle, day pack, swimsuits and rain gear. It’s also a good idea to include malaria pills, mesloquine and an anti-diarrhea medicine. (Check with your doctor on the last.)
Vaccinations recommended: Gamma globulin, typhoid, tetanus, polio, yellow fever.
