DULUTH, Minn. — Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mike Hatch stopped in mid-sentence with his mouth agape when an aide at a news conference announced, “Mike Hatch, you have a visitor,” and Johnny Cash strode in.
The country legend didn’t introduce himself with the well-known, “Hello. I’m Johnny Cash,” but said he was happy to meet the candidate and added, “It’s nice to be in Minnesota.”
When asked whether he would endorse Hatch for governor, Cash said, “I don’t know. What’s his name?”
Cash said he was passing through Duluth on his way to a concert when somebody asked whether he wanted to meet a candidate for governor.
