MOSCOW — Two cosmonauts took a walk in space Tuesday to try to repair a torn thermal blanket that could interfere with their safe return to Earth, Soviet media reported.
Cosmonauts Anatoly Solovyov and Alexander Balandin rolled back torn insulation interfering with the landing gear of their spacecraft, the mission control chief said Tuesday. He said the cosmonauts are set to return to Earth as scheduled Aug. 9.
Their Soyuz craft has been docked with the orbiting Mir space station since February. Its insulation was damaged during launch.
