No Injuries as Copter Crashes Near Castaic

A privately owned helicopter crashed Saturday and started a small brush fire in a vacant field north of Castaic Lake, authorities said. No injuries were reported.
The brush fire was extinguished by the pilot, Richard Kilbane, 33, of Sherman Oaks, said Lt. Don Rodriguez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The cause of the crash was under investigation Saturday, but Rodriguez said the copter’s engine failed shortly after Kilbane and his passenger, Michael Young, 31, took off from the field. A local resident saw the crash and alerted sheriff’s deputies, Rodriguez said.
