Beverly Hills : School Pay Plan Amended
The City Council on Tuesday approved an amendment to the Joint Powers Agreement with the city’s school district that will give the district a one-time payment of $4.9 million.
Under the agreement, the council had been giving the Beverly Hills Unified School District the money in four quarterly payments. The amendment allows the city to make a single payment rather than spread it over an entire year.
School district officials said they needed the money now to compensate for the loss of funds they had hoped to raise from a June ballot initiative. The parcel tax measure was narrowly defeated by voters in June. The school district is expected to resurrect that measure next April.
