They’ve Seen Signs but Don’t Like Them

I disagree with those who think athletes should grab whatever they can get by charging for their autograph. Sure, the average Joe would jump at the chance to spend a couple of hours at the mall and take home several thousand dollars. We are talking, however, about millionaires whose salaries are wholly dependent not on the super-rich who sit in glassed-in suites, but on the average, moderate-income working person.

No wonder they don’t look up when signing their name. They would, a lot of the time, be looking into the worshiping eyes of a young fan, who would be looking back into the face of his role model, a first-class jerk.
