Nolan Ryan told the Texas Rangers he will pitch another year if the team wants him. The team’s response: Picking up the option year on his contract is “merely a formality.”
Ranger spokesman John Blake said the club doesn’t envision a problem picking up Ryan’s option for 1991 under the $3.3-million contract he signed during spring training.
Ryan, who had said he was going to wait until the end of the season to decide, told the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram of his decision.
