Rick Mast took the lead with 27 laps remaining and went on to win the Autolite Platinum 200 at Richmond, Va., his second Busch Grand National stock car victory in the last three weeks.
Mast started 22nd in the 34-car field but moved into the top 10 by lap 40 and was in contention the rest of the way.
Mast, who had not won this season until two weeks ago at Bristol, Tenn., crossed the finish line 0.64-seconds ahead of second-place Steve Grissom. Mast earned $12,470, averaging 99.760 m.p.h. on the three-quarter-mile oval.
Michael Waltrip, who started from the pole and led the first 78 laps before pitting under a caution flag, wound up third, followed by Dale Earnhardt, Jimmy Hensley, Kenny Wallace and Robert Pressley.
Chuck Bown, the series point leader, was caught up in a multi-car crash on lap 33 and lost three laps in the pits. He finished far off the pace but remained solidly in the season lead.
