A man suspected of snatching purses from at least five women in South-Central Los Angeles has been arrested after an anonymous tipster led police to where he was hiding, police said.
Steve Jerome Canady, 26, was charged with parole violation and robbery for allegedly pushing a 56-year-old woman to the ground last week and taking her purse. Canady is suspected of snatching purses from at least four other women in the past 10 days, police said. Canady was also wanted for escaping from Inglewood police on Aug. 12 after being arrested on a drug charge. Police said they had taken Canady to a doctor and removed his handcuffs when he suddenly broke free, scaled a wall and stole a car.
