Purdue Gets Nowhere on Ground in 20-14 Defeat to Washington

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Orlando McKay scored on a 35-yard pass play from Mark Brunell in the fourth quarter, and No. 22 Washington held Purdue to zero yards rushing in beating the Boilermakers, 20-14, Saturday.
McKay’s score with 10:02 to play capped a 66-yard, three-play drive that included a 15-yard penalty against Purdue for spearing.
The Huskies (2-0) applied pressure on Purdue quarterback Eric Hunter, sacking him six times for losses totaling 42 yards.
The Boilermakers (0-1) moved 61 yards in five plays on their first possession, the drive ending with Hunter’s 11-yard shovel pass to Tony Vinson for the touchdown. One of those plays was a 44-yard Hunter-Rod Dennis hookup to the Washington 14.
They also scored on a 54-yard first-quarter pass from Hunter to Dennis.
Between the drives, Washington converted a Purdue fumble into a touchdown, Brunell scrambling to his left and running in from 47 yards three plays after defensive tackle Steve Emtman recovered a Boilermaker fumble.
Mike Dodd’s 28-yard field goal as the half ended cut the Purdue lead to 14-10, and he added a 20-yarder in the third quarter.
