COLLEGE FOOTBALL REPORT : WEEKDAY UPDATE : UCLA : Benched Bonds Praised for Attitude

With the emergence of Tommy Maddox as UCLA’s starting quarterback, Jim Bonds, who won the No. 1 job at the outset of the season, has been relegated to the background, at least temporarily.
“There was not a more team-oriented player in the UCLA locker room than Jim Bonds at halftime and after the game, which I’m sure for a young person had to be an extremely difficult and excruciating time,” UCLA Coach Terry Donahue said. “But his attitude was a big plus for this year and an example for other players to emulate.”
Said Maddox: “I’m sure Jim is hurting right now, and I feel for him. He’s a great guy. He was the first person to meet me on the sideline when I came off the field.”
