P.M. BRIEFING : Plastic Money Reaches Albania

VIENNA — Shoppers in Albania can now pay with Eurocard and Mastercard--the first credit cards to be introduced in Europe’s last stronghold of hard-line communism, Eurocard International said today.
According to the statement issued by the credit card company, the cards are to be accepted first at the airport and two hotels in the Albanian capital of Tirana, and at one hotel in the port city of Durres.
Albania’s national bank will be responsible for processing transactions and issuing cards in Albania, it said.
