11 Killed as Tropical Storm Strikes Vietnam

HANOI — At least 11 people died as Tropical Storm Ed pummeled the east coast of Vietnam, flooding large areas, sinking about 200 boats, damaging rice crops and destroying nearly 3,000 houses.
The storm hit the central province of Quang Nam-Danang on Thursday then veered north, demolishing dikes that hold back the sea and damaging more than 64,000 acres of rice fields, the official newspaper Nhan Dan said Friday. Many parts of the old imperial capital, Hue, were under three feet of water.
