Santa Margarita’s Ireland Gains Record 242 Yards

Tailback Josh Ireland rushed for a school-record 242 yards in 15 carries and three touchdowns to lead Santa Margarita High School (3-0) to a 35-6 nonconference victory over Banning (1-2) Friday night in Banning.
Ireland, who also passed 26 yards to David Shearer for another Eagles’ touchdown, set a school record when he ran 91 yards for his first touchdown on the initial play of Santa Margarita’s second possession of the game.
Shearer scored the Eagles’ final touchdown when he recovered a fumble by Banning’s punter and ran in from the seven yard line.
