FILLMORE : State Awards $22,000 to Fence Bike Path
- Share via
Fillmore has been awarded a $22,000 state grant to fence a bicycle path along Old Telegraph Road.
City Manager Roy Payne said state officials turned down two previous applications for the same grant and the city did not ask for money this year. When funding became available, however, Assemblyman Jack O’Connell (D-Carpinteria) arranged to have the money allocated to Fillmore even though the city did not apply.
According to city staff, Fillmore has until May, 1991, to send a formal request for the grant, which already has approval from the Legislature and the governor. The money comes from the Cigarette and Tobacco Products Surtax Fund.
The $22,000 grant will be used with an additional $22,000 from the city’s redevelopment fund and $6,000 from a previous grant to provide fencing and landscaping along the bike path.
