Marie Catherine Collins, a retired Burbank librarian and longtime city resident, has died at her home. She was 83.
Mrs. Collins died Sunday of cancer, said longtime friend Hortense Lyster.
She was born Marie Catherine Casey on April 1, 1907, in Death Valley. In 1941, she married Raymond Collins and moved to Burbank, where she worked from 1947 until her retirement in 1972 for Burbank’s library department, mainly at the Buena Vista branch.
She has no immediate survivors. Her husband died in 1958.
Visitation is planned from 2 to 5 p.m. and from 6:30 to 9 p.m. today, and a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., all at the Valley Funeral Home, 2121 W. Burbank Blvd. in Burbank, which is handling the arrangements. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 6160 Cartwright Ave., in North Hollywood, where she was a longtime member. Burial will follow at San Fernando Mission Cemetery in Mission Hills.
Donations can be made in Mrs. Collins’ name to the American Cancer Society, San Fernando Valley unit, or Friends of the Burbank Public Library, P.O. Box 702, Burbank 91503.
