Magazine Alliance: Newsweek and Times Mirror Magazines are teaming up to offer advertisers package deals involving combinations of their magazines and affiliated newspapers, television stations and cable TV systems. The sponsors said the Newsweek-Times Mirror Ad-Vantage plan was a first for separately owned consumer magazine publishers. The program gives discounts to advertisers who meet certain minimum spending criteria in Newsweek and at least four of 10 Times Mirror titles and agree to boost their spending in those magazines by 20%. The program will also enable advertisers to buy multimedia packages including time on broadcast and cable TV. Newsweek is a unit of Washington Post Co., and Times Mirror Magazines is a unit of Times Mirror Co., publisher of the Los Angeles Times.
