Mira Costa 35, North Torrance 0--At North High, the Mustangs got first-half touchdown runs of five and 74 yards by senior running back Jose Cervantes to win their first game. Cervantes gained 107 yards on only nine carries. Backfield partners Jason Page and James Franks scored on runs of six and five yards.
Behind Cervantes’ two TDs and Page’s run with 31 seconds left, Mira Costa (1-2-1) built a 21-0 halftime lead. Quarterback Jeff Diussa connected on a 35-yard touchdown pass to Craig Weems on the third play of the second half to put the game away. North Torrance (1-3) penetrated as far as Mira Costa’s 18-yard line but failed to score for the third consecutive game.
