TENNIS ROUNDUP : Seles Loses to Frazier; Capriati Out

Eighth-seeded Amy Frazier upset second-seeded Monica Seles, 5-7, 7-5, 6-2, in the quarterfinals of the Nichirei International Thursday at Tokyo.
Seles injured her right ankle when she slipped and fell on the artificial court during the second set with the score tied 5-5.
Jennifer Capriati also made a quick exit, losing to third-seeded Katerina Maleeva of Bulgaria, 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 7-6 (7-3).
Third-seeded John McEnroe moved to the quarterfinals of the Swiss Indoors tournament with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Niclas Kulti at Basel, Switzerland.
He will take on unseeded Andrei Cherkasov, who recovered to beat defending champion Jim Courier, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Top-seeded Brad Gilbert beat Patrick Kuhnen of West Germany, 6-3, 6-2, and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Queensland Open at Brisbane, Australia.
Gilbert will face Carl Limberger of Australia, who gained a berth in the tournament when seventh-seeded Paul Haarhuis of the Netherlands was delayed by a strike of airline ground crews. Limberger beat Thomas Hogstedt of Sweden, 6-2, 6-1.
Top-seeded Steffi Graf defeated Manon Bollegraf of the Netherlands, 6-1, 6-2, to advance to the semifinals of the Volvo women’s tournament at Leipzig, East Germany. Third-seeded Conchita Martinez of Spain earned a berth opposite Graf by beating Claudia Kohde-Kilsch of West Germany, 6-3, 2-6, 6-1.
Top-seeded Zina Garrison defeated Alexia Dechaume of France, 6-1, 6-0, and moved into the quarterfinals of the Bayonne women’s tournament at Bayonne, France.
