Northwestern Ends Losing Streak

EVANSTON, Ill. — Bob Christian rushed for 171 yards in a career-high 43 carries to help Northwestern break a 14-game losing streak by beating Northern Illinois, 24-7, Saturday.
Christian hiked his career rushing total to 2,007 yards, third on the Northwestern career list.
Christian capped a 76-yard drive with a five-yard run in the first quarter, Curt Zipfel ended a 68-yard drive with a one-yard run in the second quarter, and Len Williams completed a 75-yard drive with a seven-yard pass to Chip Morris in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, a 54-yard march was capped by a 26-yard field goal by Ira Adler.
Linebacker Ed Sutter was in on 16 tackles, with eight solos, for Northwestern. He also recovered a fumble on the Northwestern 14-yard line that kept the Huskies (2-3) from getting back into the game in the third quarter.
