Death Toll Rises to 128 in Hijacking of Chinese Airliner

BEIJING — A Chinese man has died from injuries sustained in last week’s multiple plane crash in Canton, bringing the death toll to 128 from China’s worst air disaster in a decade, a government spokesman said Monday.
An investigation into the cause of the crash, which occurred on China’s National Day holiday, is still in progress, he said.
According to China’s initial accounts, a hijacked domestic airliner crashed into two other planes while attempting to land at Canton’s airport.
One of the planes on the ground was a Boeing 757 full of passengers waiting to take off for Shanghai, and the other was empty.
China has not yet identified the hijacker.
