WORLD : U.S. Envoy Hurt in Africa Crash

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa — U.S. Ambassador William Swing suffered a concussion and a broken collarbone when his vehicle collided with a taxi on rain-slickened streets, the U.S. Embassy said today.
Swing, 56, remained hospitalized today following the accident Monday, but he was in good condition and was expected to be released shortly, an embassy spokesman said.
Swing was being driven to the airport when the accident occurred near downtown Johannesburg.
The ambassador’s chauffeur was slightly injured.
