New San Francisco Opera Music Director: Scottish conductor Donald Runnicles has been appointed San Francisco Opera music director effective January, 1992. Runnicles, Generalmusikdirektor of the Stadtische Buhnen in Freiburg, Germany, is the second person to hold the post after the death of Sir John Pritchard last December. Sir Charles Mackerras has been named principal guest conductor beginning in 1993.
