Propositions for Term Limits

David Broder must know better than this and he does (“Competition, Not Limitation Is the Answer,” Commentary, Sept. 18). After listing all the reasons why there should be a limit to the terms of office for our legislators, he says we shouldn’t.
Of course, we need competitive elections, but how we can accomplish this Broder does not explain. Experience in office will continue because many of the legislative staffers will run for office. Outsiders who are elected will hire other staffers who agree more with their philosophy, or better yet bring new people into their office.
Bureaucrats will continue regardless of who is elected, for government is basically bureaucracy. Elected officials set policy by passing laws.
Oklahoma has opened the door, Colorado and California in November are next. Happy days are here again!
