P.M. BRIEFING : Conran Resigns to Shift Focus

LONDON — Sir Terence Conran, the British design maverick who created the Conran and Habitat home furnishing stores, has left the retailing giant he founded.
The company, Storehouse PLC, said today that Conran has resigned as a non-executive director to pursue other commitments.
Conran, 59, relinquished his duties as chairman in May, after heading the group since its formation in 1986.
He has bought from Storehouse the main London store bearing his name for $6.9 million and intends to open additional stores. He also is a director of RSCG Conran Design and of the publisher Conran Octopus, and has property and restaurant interests.
In July, Conran sold a 4.9% stake in the company to investors, reducing his holding to 2.2%.
