Woodbridge’s Late Field Goal Ties Corona del Mar

NEWPORT BEACH — Woodbridge High School kicker Brian Nurick connected on a 21-yard field goal with four seconds left on the clock, giving the Warriors a 27-27 tie against Corona del Mar in a Sea View League game Thursday night before 1,500 at Newport Harbor High.
Woodbridge quarterback James Wyatt, who drove his team from the Warriors’ 38-yard line to Corona del Mar’s four to set up the tying field goal on the game’s last possession, completed nine of 18 passes for 131 yards.
Nurick, a 5-foot-9, 150-pound senior, also made a 41-yard field goal with 8:23 left in the half to give Woodbridge (2-4-1, 0-1-1 in the league) a 10-7 lead.
Corona del Mar (4-2-1, 1-0-1) took a 27-24 lead with 1:56 left to play on a 31-yard pass from quarterback Todd Kehrli to wide receiver Steve Bacon.
“We were flat tonight and they played great,” Corona del Mar Coach Dave Holland said. “We were fortunate to get a tie.”
