Sony Reports Strong Results: Japan’s Sony Corp. posted sharply higher results for the first half of its fiscal year, but industry analysts forecast tougher times ahead. Buoyed by strong sales of 8-millimeter video camcorders, audio equipment and color TVs, the parent company’s net profit jumped 45% in the six months to Sept. 30, to $307.7 million (39.39 billion yen), officials said. Profit growth for the Sony group as a whole, though, was smaller. Net group profits rose 6% to $405.9 million (51.95 billion yen).
