NATION IN BRIEF : NATIONWIDE : Snow Hits Rockies Aims for Midwest

A snowstorm headed for the northern Mississippi Valley after dropping up to 16 inches of snow on the Rockies, and a new storm moved into the Northwest. The snowstorm, with wind gusts up to 70 m.p.h. in Denver, caused heavy snow in the Colorado mountains, hitting Aspen with blizzard intensity. Parts of Wyoming, Utah, Idaho and Montana also received snow. The snow spread into South Dakota and Nebraska and was expected to hit parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin today. A strong new Pacific storm was expected to produce heavy snow in the mountains of Washington, Oregon and Northern California over the weekend. Light showers fell in the Carolinas, and temperatures were in the teens in the Northeast.
