A 23-year-old man who allegedly threatened to kill his landlord and then locked himself in his apartment surrendered Tuesday after a brief stand-off with police, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department said.
The man, who was not identified, allegedly threatened to commit suicide. Police arrived at the apartment in the 9100 block of Cerritos Avenue about 8:30 a.m., said Sheriff’s Department Lt. Larry Richey.
Hostage negotiators and a special weapons team were dispatched to the scene, Richey said. A negotiator talked the man into giving himself up without a struggle.
A gun was discovered inside the apartment, but at no time were police or others threatened with the weapon, Richey said. The man was taken to a local hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
