Firefighters who extinguished a three-alarm blaze at a Thousand Oaks home Wednesday night later discovered a body in the ruins of the gutted building, authorities said.
The victim, whose identity had not yet been determined, was found in the house at 79 Los Padres Drive about 10 p.m., said a Ventura County Fire Department spokesman. Fire officials immediately summoned investigators from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department and the county coroner’s office. There was no immediate indication that foul play was involved.
A neighbor reported the fire at 8:30 p.m. in the two-story residence in an exclusive area of Thousand Oaks. Flames had enveloped the interior of the house by the time firefighters arrived. A total of 55 firefighters worked from nine engines and two ladder trucks to put out the blaze, authorities said.
The cause of the blaze was not known late Wednesday night. The house was completely gutted by the fire, which was contained within the interior by the building’s tile roof.
