Dow industrials: The Dow Jones industrial average posted its biggest one-day gain since the 1987 stock market crash, closing up 114.60 to 2,623.51 in very active trading. Credit Markets: Bond prices posted some of their largest gains on record. U.S. Treasury bonds soared, closing up 2 1/2 points, or $25 on a 30-year $1,000 bond. Metals: Gold prices closed sharply lower, off $30.10 to $374.40 an ounce on the New York Commodity Exchange. Dollar: After an initial surge, the dollar fell against most currencies.
