Mono Lake and Water Shortage

Even politicians have finally agreed that California is experiencing a major drought. Rainfall has been above average only once in the last seven years, in 1986. No wonder we have a severe water crisis!
Some of the greatest water wasters in the area are commercial and industrial companies that use 24-hour timers to water after dark. While working, I travel between these companies during the night and see sprinklers operating every night, even during the winter and during a rain. Stricter laws and a night “drought buster” team are needed to control this waste.
Water rates are too low. Those who use more water should pay a higher rate. Rationing is desperately needed. Perhaps the ghost towns now appearing on reservoir bottoms are a grim prophecy of what can happen to California cities unless action is taken now.
