San Marino : Water-Use Limits Approved

It is now illegal to water lawns between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., the City Council decided last week.
In establishing water conservation measures, the council on Monday also voted unanimously to limit landscape watering to a maximum of three days a week, to outlaw hosing down driveways and other hard surfaces and to require that only hoses equipped with shut-off valves may be used to wash cars.
In addition, pools and spas must be covered during the summer months to prevent evaporation, and plumbing and irrigation systems must be kept in good repair to avoid such problems as leaky sprinklers or perennially running toilets.
City officials say widespread compliance is likely, but flagrant offenses could be treated as misdemeanors, City Manager Keith Till said.
