The Cerritos High School band won a second-place trophy in the Super Bowl Music Festival in Tampa, Fla.
The 97-member band competed the week before the Super Bowl against 13 other high school bands from throughout the United States.
The Cerritos band finished second behind the 183-member Central Farmville High School band from North Carolina. The first-place band got to perform at the Super Bowl on Sunday.
Despite the second place, Cerritos Band Director James Webb said, “Our students were elated. We were satisfied.”
Webb said the only unhappy event came when the group’s truck was ticketed for parking in a white zone at Los Angeles International Airport while loading their equipment.
