Man, 60, Resists Robber and Is Shot to Death

A 60-year-old man who resisted an armed robber’s demand for money was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon in an apartment in the 600 block of South Santa Fe Avenue in Compton, police said.
The victim, Abel Mesta, was working with another man, whose identity was not disclosed, when the gunman tried to rob them and shot Mesta in a scuffle when the victim refused to give up his money, Lt. Joe Flores said.
The robber then fled, Flores said.
