DESERT STORM: DAY 14 : Military

Allied troops took back the coastal town that saw the Persian Gulf War’s first sustained ground fighting, the military said today. However, Iraqis continued to shell Saudi, Qatari and American forces, according to Western reporters in Khafji. After nightfall, U.S. sources said the town was all but rid of Iraqis. Marines sent Cobra helicopters in to root out stubborn Iraqi forces who kept up the fight hours after Saudi army units had taken over most of the deserted town.
