Santa Monica : Council OKs Interpreters

The City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved making interpreters available at council meetings in an effort to improve relations with the city’s Latino community.
A recent study by the Latino Resource Organization, a local nonprofit group, concluded the city has not been serving the Latino community sufficiently.
The resolution to provide interpreters to Spanish-speaking citizens will also apply to other public meetings, such as Planning Commission and Rent Control Board hearings. The city currently provides sign-language interpreters for the hearing-impaired at public meetings.
