WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — About 100 students, coaches and support personnel will be affected when William & Mary eliminates its women’s basketball, men’s wrestling and men’s and women’s swimming programs, officials said.
In announcing the cuts Tuesday, President Paul R. Verkuil said it was necessary to trim the school’s varsity sports programs because of budget constraints.
The cuts, which take effect this fall, are expected to save the school about $300,000.
William & Mary, an NCAA Division I school, will be left with 21 varsity sports.
