In today’s Times, a special bonus for armchair travelers: The spring issue of Traveling in Style magazine will visit London, Mexico City, the Big Island of Hawaii, Bluegrass Country in Kentucky and Manhattan. And for parents who love to roam, there’s a story on deluxe resorts where children are welcome.
In this special color issue called “Places of the Heart,” novelist Pete Hamill evokes the sights, smells and feel of Mexico City’s Arena Coliseo. Journalist Leonard Gross tells the story of his stays at the exclusive Connaught Hotel and how it is a little bit like being accepted into London’s finest private club. For horse racing purists, a trip to Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Ky., is a little bit like heaven.
Other stories focus on the Hawaiian legend of Halemaumau, the centerpiece of Volcanoes national Park, the place where Hawaiian legend says the Earth itself was born. And New York City’s Chrysler Building, which is a rhapsody in Art Deco rhythms, chords and lightness.
