Gen. Merrill A. McPeak, the highest-ranking officer in the U.S. Air Force and a San Diego State University alumnus, will discuss “The Role of the U.S. Air Force in Today’s World” Thursday on the SDSU campus.
McPeak will speak to the Institute on World Affairs and field questions from the public, institute director George Bergstrom said.
As Air Force chief of staff, the general is in charge of almost a million active-duty, reserve and civilian personnel as well as being a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and adviser to Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney and President Bush.
McPeak graduated from SDSU in 1957 with a bachelor’s degree in economics. He was named chief of staff in October after Gen. Michael J. Dugan was fired for revealing to the media the United States’ strategy for bombing Iraq.
McPeak will speak at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Nasatir Hall Auditorium. The public is invited.
