D.A. Assailed on Fund-Raisers

Regarding your article on Ventura County Dist. Atty. Michael Bradbury, I was surprised the story (March 24) did not mention one of the main reasons that Mr. Bradbury has achieved notoriety among so many people.
He is the only district attorney in the state who enforces an archaic law outlawing benefit drawings for nonprofit organizations. His shutdown of every major fund-raising effort by these organizations has cut deeply into the budgets that sustain many charitable groups and private schools.
These drawings have traditionally been held for years and raised thousands of dollars for the benefit of many in the county. Many Ventura County residents have asked themselves why Mr. Bradbury has chosen to enforce this law with such tenacity when the results have had such a negative effect on so many people.
