‘Red Lantern’ Banned: Chinese censors will ban a new film by director Zhang Yimou whose last work, “Ju Dou,” the government tried to withdraw from consideration for an Oscar. Chinese Film Bureau chief Teng Jinxian screened the new work, “Red Lantern,” last week and did not approve it, sources said Sunday. “Red Lantern” is about a powerful old man who takes four concubines into his home, which is closed to the outside world.
