MALAYSIA: The government plans to double Malaysia’s gross national product every 10 years and propel it to developed economy status by 2020. The target would require 7% annual growth over 30 years. Economic growth ran at more than 9% in 1990 and is projected at 8% this year. Manufactured products make up half of all its exports. Malaysia is the world’s leading producer of palm oil and natural rubber, a net exporter of oil and a major source of tin, tropical hardwoods and pepper.
