Monrovia : Police Chaplain Corps Plan

The City Council unanimously approved a plan Tuesday to establish a volunteer chaplain corps to work with the Police Department.
Chaplains, who will be sought from every religious denomination in the city, would put in eight hours a month riding with patrol officers, counseling police officers involved in stressful situations, responding to emergencies, making death notifications and working with victims of crimes.
Police Chief Joseph Santoro said potential chaplains must undergo an extensive background investigation before they will be allowed to volunteer.
The idea for a chaplain corps came from Mayor Robert Bartlett’s annual pastors’ breakfast last October.
