From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Five more swarms of Africanized bees were identified in southern Texas, bringing to 11 the confirmed sightings since the so-called “killer bees” crossed the border from Mexico. All the bees were destroyed, officials said. Nineteen counties in South Texas are under quarantine, prohibiting the movement of any bees from the area. Africanized bees are an aggressive strain that will attack anything. The main swarm is 75 miles south of the border in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas.
