Ryan Rauch of Woodbridge High School has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Yale next season, Woodbridge Coach Bill Shannon said Friday.
Rauch, a 6-foot-4 swingman, chose Yale over Columbia. Although Ivy League schools do not offer athletic scholarships, Rauch has been accepted by Yale.
“Ryan is very much a Yale student,” Shannon said. “He has a 4.0 grade-point average and he has a Scholastic Aptitude Test score that’s off the scale.”
Shannon said Rauch might play as a freshman. Yale finished second in the league to Princeton last season.
“He’s the only wing-type player they have coming,” Shannon said. “He shot 43% from three-point range for us last season, and a lot of teams play zone defense against Yale.”
Rauch averaged 17 points last season and was named to the all-Southern Section second team. He also is one of the top volleyball players in Orange County.
