Man Linked to Pilfering of Mother’s Day Cards

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — A mail handler suspected of opening more than 100 Mother’s Day cards in search of cash could face prosecution in federal court, officials said Monday.
They said an unidentified employee was placed on unpaid emergency suspension after admitting Saturday that he had dumped several opened cards in storm sewers.
Postal inspectors said he had two crumpled cards in his hand when they approached, and investigators found 99 other cards in a plastic bag in his possession.
Dozens of the cards are being returned to senders to help determine their contents, officials said.
